Shortly after returning to Hong Kong, a day before the Handover in '97, Ghost Style got his musical start as the front man for a local indie band ‘Site Access.' They played ‘alternative groove funk' (a term they coined themselves) and released two well-received CDs ‘Slow Jam' and ‘Funk Fu.' During the five year period with the band, GS was a supporter and fan of local talents, and he contributed to the scene when he published a now defunct ‘zine called ‘Chalk.' However, running a publication, committed to a band, partying and a non-stop lifestyle couldn't last forever. So, GS choose to answer his calling for music.

Ghost Style's experiences in living out life in the fast lane, translated into rapping. Ghost Style gives props to LMF who fused metal and canto hiphop together. Taking their lead, GS was influenced to put his words on wax. In 2002, Ghost Style produced the first English rap-oriented CD in Hong Kong titled ‘Alias'. This album was twisted, with broken beats, lo-fi, experimental soundscapes while rapping some real lyrics. Like on the song ‘Dear Mr. President' the chorus still so relevant today as it was in '02. “Dear Mr. President/I don't blame you for killing your citizens/Dear Mr. President/I don't blame you for killing the innocent. Slowly but surely, hiphop became a new way to express his times under the realities of a harsh cultural void for musicians. His Influences are to many to mention however, notable producers and hiphop icons are; Dr. Dre, Big L, Jay-Z, Track Masters, Kanye West, Rick Rubin, Lee Scratch Perry and DJ Screw. He would later go on to produce two other rap CDs ‘How Deep Is Yo Love' and ‘So Hot It Hertz'.

Lyrically potent GS deals with issues like chemistry lathered streets, rich slacker lifestyles, politics, party girls and whatever else he might experience in HK. According to Ghost Style, they are his movies on life, which are ‘exaggerated fiction'. His voice ranges from a low-key baritone, to a crispy kid on the mic. GS has a melodic flow and sometimes you may catch him crooning out a hook or two on the songs. His voice is instantly recognizable and has glimpses of brilliance when he delivers potent lyrics that can touch listeners. A quiet, reserved guy in person, however, put a mic in his hand or get him on a track and he's all business. A hungry mc ready to put all his effort and focus on bringing something to the song.

As founder of Rebel Studio, GS started the company to give opportunities to local talents. It's worked out for GS because he is also free to do collabos with international artists, designers or whatever. Cross musical styles, cross artistic mediums.
